WILLIS ALAN RAMSEY

Willis Alan Ramsey

Willis Alan Ramsey Bio
Legendary texas folk blues artist Willis Alan Ramsey
released a self-titled album in 1972 when he was barely 21years old.
The album contained 11 songs of such consummate
craftsmanship that 9 of them would be covered by major artists.
Songs on “Willis Alan Ramsey” jumped off the vinyl, quirky stories about
honeybees, wandering minstrels, watermelons, and painted ladies. “Muskrat Love” was recorded by America and Captain and Tennille.
“Ballad of Spider John” was recorded by Jimmy Buffet,
Waylon Jennings, Jerry Jeff Walker, Shawn Colvin, Kate Wolf, and the Bellamy Brothers also recorded versions of Ramsey’s songs. “That's Right (You're Not From Texas)” was co-written by Lyle Lovett, Allison Rogers and Ramsey.
Lovett and Willis co-wrote “North Dakota”
Lyle Lovett: “You can hear blues in every one of his songs. It
wasn’t like anything you’d heard before. It was great storytelling”
